Management development programme
We train managers to become effective mentors for individuals in the local community who face additional barriers to self-employment. This forward-thinking, high-impact programme goes far beyond a typical CSR initiative, giving your staff an opportunity to develop leadership, empathy, and communication skills while creating real social value.

Benna and Phil have partnered with some of the UK’s leading blue-chip organisations to deliver programmes that up skill employees and make a measurable difference in people’s lives. The result is professional growth for your team and genuine impact for your community.

How It Works
We train managers to become effective mentors, pairing them with individuals in the community who face barriers to self-employment. Through expert guidance, they gain the skills and confidence to make a lasting difference, to their mentee, their organisation, and the wider community.
This impact-driven programme develops leadership and mentoring capability while strengthening communication, empathy, and performance. It enhances staff retention and productivity, and delivers meaningful CSR outcomes.

ASPIRING ENTREPRENEURS IN BELMARSH PRISON

As part of our caring culture, we want to empower people and communities to achieve their ultimate potential. A great example of this, was when some Associates recently went into Belmarsh prison to mentor prisoners who are due to be released shortly. The prisoners volunteered to receive a day of self-employment training from their Lockton mentors before pitching their business plan in a ‘Dragons’ Den’ format.

Feedback from the prisoners was very positive who appreciated the support from experienced people and the chance to change their lives in a profound way. The program increased the prisoners’ skill set and gave them a wider perspective to take into the workplace. The Associate mentors were able to diversify their communication and managerial skills and obtain a wider perspective to take back into the workplace. Some of the comments Associates had about the experience included:

“It is hard to put into words how amazing the whole day was. One of the prisoners described it as an “atmosphere of hope”. I feel immensely proud to have had the opportunity to support the mentees in their potential careers and encourage others in Lockton to become involved in the future.”

“One of the prisoners mentioned that the course made them feel, just for a day, that they weren’t in prison and were being treated as professionals. Listening to the group presenting their business plans made me also feel as if I was not in a prison – the amount of talent and kindness in the room was inspiring.”
“It was truly one of the most, if not the most valuable and worthwhile activities I have been a part of in all my time at Lockton.”

“The inmates said thank you for giving up your time, for giving them a day where they felt normal, to help them forget that they are in prison, that they were being treated like adults. My hope is that by giving them time and an opportunity to express themselves, we have helped with their time in prison.”
Our involvement with Belmarsh has been a great success for everyone involved and we will be reviewing if we can arrange similar days going forward!
